Gradient-based variable forgetting factor RLS algorithm in time-varying environments

In this paper, a new control mechanism for the variable forgetting factor (VFF) of the recursive least square (RLS) adaptive algorithm is presented. The control algorithm is basically a gradient-based method of which the gradient is derived from an improved mean square error analysis of RLS.

Time-varying spectral estimation using AR models with variable forgetting factors

A method of estimating time-varying spectra of nonstationary signals using recursive least squares (RLS) with variable forgetting factors (VFFs) is described. The VFF is adapted to a nonstationary signal by an extended prediction error criterion which accounts for the nonstationarity of the signal.

Tracking improvements in fast RLS algorithms using a variable forgetting factor

The concept of a variable forgetting factor (VFF) is incorporated into fast recursive least squares (FRLS) algorithms. Compromises in the data matrix that are needed to do this are examined. Both prewindowed and growing memory covariance algorithms are presented in transversal and lattice structures.
