Analysis of a Variable Geometry Radial Inflow Turbine Using 1D Mean-line Model

open access: yesEngineering Transactions
Despite great progress in 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD), mathematical modeling used for turbomachinery analysis, the prediction of flow parameters in the rotor (impeller) of radial inflow turbines using existing turbulence models often yields ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Unsteady Numerical Investigation into the Impact of Isolator Motion on High-Mach-Number Inlet Restart via Throat Adjustment

open access: yesAerospace
This paper focuses on exploring the variable throat-assisted restart method for high-Mach-number inlets. A two-dimensional adjustable throat hypersonic inlet was designed, and unsteady numerical simulations were carried out on its restart process, which ...

A comparison of three heuristics to choose the variable ordering for CAD [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Cylindrical algebraic decomposition (CAD) is a key tool for problems in real algebraic geometry and beyond. When using CAD there is often a choice over the variable ordering to use, with some problems infeasible in one ordering but simple in another ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

CFD-Driven Enhancement for Supersonic Aircraft Variable Geometry Inlet

open access: yesApplied Sciences
High-speed propulsion systems require supersonic inlets for operation; however, these inlets lose efficiency when the flight speed range is wide. Fixed-geometry inlets designed for particular conditions encounter operational difficulties when running at ...

“Multinationality with variable geometry” and the EU legal order

open access: yesItalian Labour Law e-Journal, 2019
This paper highlights that the approach to the “notion” of “multinationality” of the EU legal order is different from that adopted by the international legal order, where that notion is substantially irrelevant.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Applying machine learning to the problem of choosing a heuristic to select the variable ordering for cylindrical algebraic decomposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Cylindrical algebraic decomposition(CAD) is a key tool in computational algebraic geometry, particularly for quantifier elimination over real-closed fields. When using CAD, there is often a choice for the ordering placed on the variables.
