Variability and Functionality in High School Mathematics
The Mathematics Teacher, 1929The subject of variation as a topic or possibly phase of mathematics is a very important one in the field of the secondary school. In this day, when so much is made of correlations within the general field of mathematics and with other allied fields of science, the study of variation brings out numerous interesting contacts and inter-relations for the ...

On Problems in Mathematical Physics with Variable Parameter
Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2017We consider evolution equations with variable parameters. We obtain new representations of solutions and indicate their applications to inverse problems in mathematical physics.

First-Year Mathematics-A Challenging Variable
The Two-Year College Mathematics Journal, 1970In each issue an article will be chosen for this section which the editors believe has special distinction. It must deal with a vital problem that, in the editorial board's opinion, has been handled in an exceptionally scholarly and literate manner.

Constrained mathematics analysis of uncertain variables
SMC'98 Conference Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (Cat. No.98CH36218), 2002Analyses (e.g., safety analyses and reliability analyses) that are based on variable or uncertain inputs need to reflect the ranges of potential output variability or uncertainty. A challenging problem in mathematically processing the operands is that constraints inherent in the problem definition can require computations that are difficult to ...

Intellective variables and mathematics achievement: Directions for research
Journal of School Psychology, 1970Abstract Research concerned with the analysis and correlates of mathematical abilities, conducted primarily during the past decade, is reviewed. It is concluded that certain specific abilities, in addition to general intelligence, affect performance in mathematics.

Mathematical modeling of variables involved in dissolution testing
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2011Dissolution testing is an important technique used for development and quality control of solid oral dosage forms of pharmaceutical products. However, the variability associated with this technique, especially with USP apparatuses 1 and 2, is a concern for both the US Food and Drug Administration and pharmaceutical companies.

Mathematics Presentation as a Function of Cognitive/Personality Variables
Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1977This study examined certain aspects of cognitive/personality traits that affected prospective teachers' choice of rule-example order in teaching mathematics. Seventy undergraduate elementary education majors were given the Paragraph Completion Test measuring conceptual level and the Group Embedded Figures Test measuring field dependence-independence ...

Effects of Noncontent Variables on Mathematics Test Performance
Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1987Results of 120 research studies were combined by meta-analysis to determine effects on mathematics test performance of factors other than knowledge of content. Effect sizes for 18 variables were derived by the method invented by Glass and tested for consistency and significance with inferential statistics provided by Hedges and Olkin.

Names and evaluation 1: mathematical variables
1999Maple uses numbers, mathematical variables, algebraic expressions, mathematical functions, matrices, and many other types of objects. This chapter discusses the mechanisms in Maple for handling names that refer to these objects.
