A Novel Simulation Approach for Damage Evolution during Tailored Forming
Traditional damage models are struggling to accurately and efficiently simulate large‐scale three‐dimensional models with a great number of degrees of freedoms. A new gradient‐enhanced damage model based on the extended Hamilton principle can significantly reduce the computation time while ensuring mesh‐independence which is suitable to use in tailored

Additive manufacturing technologies like laser powder‐bed fusion offer great design freedom and individualization of products down to a batch size of one. However, parts fabricated with this technology suffer from poor quality. Acoustic assistance during the build process can minimize these drawbacks.

This study presents a 3D representative volume element‐based simulation approach to predict mesoscopic residual stress and strain fields in silicon solid solution‐strengthened ductile cast iron. By modeling phase transformation kinetics with an enhanced Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov model, the effects of varying cooling rates on residual stresses are ...

A mathematical representation of biological variability in medical images [PDF]
Medical image ensembles exhibit variability and it is the aim of computational anatomy to represent such variabilities mathematically and to exploit these knowledge representations by inference algorithms implemented through code. The variability is caused by several factors and our pattern theoretic approach rests on the assumption that they can be ...

Toughness of Confined Auxetic Foams
Auxetic (negative Poisson's ratio) materials offer benefits such as impact mitigation, thermal insulation, vibration damping, and reduced shear strain, although their fracture mechanics are largely unexplored. This study investigates damage initiation and propagation in confined re‐entrant auxetic foams from polyurethane via experimental ...

Linguistic Variables of Type-N. A Mathematical Model
- Abstract: This work proposes a generalization for the notions of Linguistic Variables and Fuzzification Process. The idea is to provide a concept of fuzzy systems in which the linguistic terms of a linguistic variable are not necessarily connected with fuzzy sets of the same type. Those systems are called here Systems of Type-n.
