Yield Response to Variable Rate Irrigation in Corn

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Science, 2015
To investigate the impact of variable rate irrigation on corn yield, twenty plots of corn were laid out under a center pivot variable rate irrigation (VRI) system in an experimental field near Stoneville, Mississippi. The VRI system is equipped with five VRI zone control units, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, and computer software.

Responses of dry edible bean crop growth and water productivities under different irrigation scenarios in the U.S. high plains

open access: yesAgricultural Water Management
Dry edible bean is an important crop for protein sources worldwide. As freshwater resources become increasingly constrained, understanding how dry beans respond to different irrigation regimes and identifying optimal irrigation management strategies ...

An Overview of Smart Irrigation Management for Improving Water Productivity under Climate Change in Drylands

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
Global drylands, covering about 41% of Earth’s surface and inhabited by 38% of the world’s population, are facing the stark challenges of water scarcity, low water productivity, and food insecurity.

Variable-Rate Irrigation in Diversified Vegetable Crops: System Development and Evaluation

open access: yesAgriEngineering
Diversified cropping systems offer an alternative to sustainable agriculture, but they present high spatial variability. This study aims to develop and evaluate an automated irrigation system and a variable-rate water application for areas with ...

Assessing the financial and environmental impacts of precision irrigation in a humid climate

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2019
Precision agriculture is increasingly used where in-field spatial variability exists; however, the benefits of its use in humid climates are less apparent.

Evaluating spatial and temporal variations in sub-field level crop water demands

open access: yesFrontiers in Agronomy, 2022
Variable rate irrigation (VRI) requires accurate knowledge of crop water demands at the sub-field level. Existing VRI practices commonly use one or more variables like soil electrical conductivity, historical yields, and topographic maps to delineate ...

Smart Face Masks as Wearable Respiratory Sensors: A Review of Sensor Technologies, Materials, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in smart face masks that actively monitor breathing. By integrating humidity, gas, temperature, pressure, strain, and triboelectric sensors, these masks track key respiratory parameters in real time. The article summarizes sensor mechanisms, compares performance across studies, and discusses challenges and future ...

Equity-Efficiency Optimizing Resource Allocation: The Role of Time Preferences in a Repeated Irrigation Game [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We study repeated water allocation decisions among small scale irrigation users in Tanzania. In a treatment replicating water scarcity conditions, convexities in production make that substantial efficiency gains can be obtained by deviating from equal ...

Parallel Electrical Integration of Photo Bio Electrochemical Systems (photo‐BESs): Performance Gains and Load Dependency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Parallel wiring of bioelectrochemical devices with conventional generators unexpectedly boosts output. A biophotovoltaic paired with a solar cell delivers up to 50% more power at low loads than their separate contributions; a plant microbial fuel cell shows similar current gains.
