Variable Speed Drives Evaluation Test

IEEE Industry Applications Magazine, 1998
Testing of variable speed drives is not yet subject to standards, although motor drives with the same general design may differ significantly in performance. Tests of efficiency, harmonic content, immunity to voltage sags and capacitor switching are developed and applied to a collection of 3 hp and 20 hp 480 V drives.

VARIABLE-SPEED GOVERNORS

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1919
<div class="htmlview paragraph">THE ordinary governor used on trucks and tractors is essentially a one-speed device. It gives good results at one speed, but at higher speeds “hunting” develops and at lower speeds governing is less accurate. This is because the spring must be stiff enough for maximum speed, and hence four times stiffer than it ...

Scheduling Multiple Variable-Speed Machines

Operations Research, 1994
We examine scheduling problems where we control not only the assignment of jobs to machines, but also the time used by the job on the machine. For instance, many tooling machines allow control of the speed at which a job is run. Increasing the speed incurs costs due to machine wear, but also increases throughput. We discuss some fundamental scheduling

VARIABLE-SPEED RECORDER-REPRODUCER

1962
Abstract : the basic design consideration is described for the record-reproducer stemming from the peculiarities of contract requirements. Deviations from conventional magnetic recording are described and the necessities of these changes ARE PROVED. The unorthodox tape transport system is an evolution from a conventional drive mechanism through the ...

Variable-Speed Power Generation

2013
Theory of the variable (adjustable) speed generation systems is described. The main part is related to island (autonomous) operation. Variable speed means an additional degree of freedom of the generation system. Moreover, it provides higher speed than conventional system based on wound rotor synchronous generator.
