Sudden death and variant angina.

open access: yesRevista portuguesa de cardiologia : orgao oficial da Sociedade Portuguesa de Cardiologia = Portuguese journal of cardiology : an official journal of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology, 2002
Variant angina is defined by chest pain occurring at rest associated with transitory ST segment elevation on ECG, and is caused by a spasm of a coronary artery. Frequently, variant angina is associated with atherosclerotic coronary obstruction and patients with normal coronary arteries are rare. Patients with variant angina and normal coronary arteries

All‐cause mortality after self‐reported vs. hospital‐reported gynecological surgery: The HUNT study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Mortality risk after hysterectomy and oophorectomy varied between hospital‐reported and self‐reported exposure. This could explain the heterogeneity between previous studies. In this study, hospital‐reported hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy were not associated with increased mortality risk, but early bilateral oophorectomy was.

Non‐canonical PKG1 regulation in cardiovascular health and disease

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
It is well established that the cyclic GMP‐dependent protein kinase I (PKG1) is canonically activated by cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), enabling its regulation of vascular tone, cardiac function and smooth muscle homeostasis. However, diverse non‐canonical stimuli of PKG1 have also been identified.

Novel therapeutic targets for chronic visceral pain in gastrointestinal disorders

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Chronic visceral pain imposes a major clinical challenge in gastroenterology and beyond, profoundly impacting patients' quality of life. However, limited understanding of its complex, multifaceted pathophysiology, encompassing both peripheral and central mechanisms, continues to impede the development of effective management strategies.

Surgical therapy of variant angina associated with nonobstructive coronary disease.

open access: yes, 1981
Patients with variant angina refractory to medical therapy pose a difficult management problem. We report two patients with variant angina who had focal spasm in coronary arteries with fixed obstructions of less than 20% of the luminal diameter. Ischemic

Cardiovascular toxicity from immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy: an inflammatory continuum

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy has markedly improved outcomes in advanced malignancies but has also revealed a distinct spectrum of cardiovascular immune‐related adverse events. Myocarditis represents the most severe manifestation, while non‐inflammatory left ventricular dysfunction and vascular inflammation have emerged as additional ...

Association of altered body composition with cardiac wasting in cancer with and without cardiotoxic therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Created in BioRender: Scientific Figure and Illustration Software. Background and Purpose In advanced cancer, associations among changes in body composition, cardiac wasting and prior cardiotoxic anticancer therapy have not been investigated. Experimental Approach Using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), body composition was measured in 206 ...

Cardiometabolic Risk in First Degree Relatives of Women With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common multisystem disorder with reproductive, cardiometabolic and psychological implications. Genetic factors play a role in the pathogenesis of PCOS. We sought to investigate the cardiometabolic health of first degree relatives (FDR) of women with PCOS.
