The emergence of property rights enforcement in early trade : A behavioral model without reputational effects [PDF]
Original article can be found at: http://www.sciencedirect.com/ Copyright ElsevierThe present article focuses on the conditions that allow governments to increase property rights protection because they expect enough income from such action. We develop a

Totally positive refinable functions with general dilation M [PDF]
We construct a new class of approximating functions that are M-refinable and provide shape preserving approximations. The refinable functions in the class are smooth, compactly supported, centrally symmetric and totally positive.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Geometrically Designed Variable Knot Splines in Generalized (Non-)Linear Models [PDF]
In this paper we extend the GeDS methodology, recently developed by Kaishev et al. (2016) for the Normal univariate spline regression case, to the more general GNM (GLM) context.

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

An Advection Scheme using Paired Explicit Runge-Kutta Time Integration for Atmospheric Modeling
In this paper, a new numerical scheme was proposed to solve the advection equation in a multi-moment nonhydrostatic dynamical core.To guarantee the shape-preserving property, the limiting operations are devised for a hybrid discretization framework ...

When evolving in time the solution of a hyperbolic partial differential equation, it is often desirable to use high order strong stability preserving (SSP) time discretizations. These time discretizations preserve the monotonicity properties satisfied by

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

DStreaM: A Convective Term Approximation Approach That Corresponds to Pure Convection
In recent decades, considerable effort has been devoted to developing higher-order schemes for the discretization of convective terms that are both stable and reliable.
