RAD50 missense variants differentially affect the DNA damage response and mitotic progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
RAD50 incorporates into the MRN complex and initiates the DNA damage response. Furthermore, RAD50 promotes mitotic progression. RAD50 missense variants capable of forming an MRN complex supported the DNA damage response and mitotic features to different extents in complementation experiments, indicating these functions are separable and might impact ...

Variations on a theme [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Medical Association Journal, 2021
The facility was far uptown. We all dozed off during the long ride, and by the time the train lurched into the station, we were groggy. Though we were not native New Yorkers, three years in the city was enough to develop that uncanny ability to emerge from sleep just before missing your stop ...

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Reduced Neuronal Transcription of Escargot, the Drosophila Gene Encoding a Snail-Type Transcription Factor, Promotes Longevity

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2018
In recent years, several genes involved in complex neuron specification networks have been shown to control life span. However, information on these genes is scattered, and studies to discover new neuronal genes and gene cascades contributing to life ...

Variation of Hilbert Coefficients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
For a Noetherian local ring $(\RR, \m)$, the first two Hilbert coefficients, $e_0$ and $e_1$, of the $I$-adic filtration of an $\m$-primary ideal $I$ are known to code for properties of $\RR$, of the blowup of $\spec(\RR)$ along $V(I)$, and even of their

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

An Improved MG Model for Turbulent Mixing Parameterization in the Northwestern South China Sea

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Using in situ microstructure observations from 2010 to 2018, this study assesses the applicability of turbulent mixing parameterization schemes in the northwestern South China Sea (NSCS) and improves the MG model proposed by MacKinnon and Gregg in 2003 ...

Calculus of Variations

open access: yesOberwolfach Reports, 2005
The workshop continued the longstanding biannual series at Oberwolfach on Calculus of Variations. This Oberwolfach series provides an imporant service to the mathematics community, being currently the only periodic international meeting in this very active area.
