A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

Phase Stability Study of the Marcasite‐Structure Solid Solutions (Fe,TM)Sb2 (TM = Cr, Ni) Synthesized via Combinatorial Co‐Deposition and Antimonization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase diagrams of transition‐metal di‐pnictides have been efficiently and quickly explored by combinatorial deposition of transition‐metal films and subsequent antimonization enabling the study of compounds with volatile elements. In (Fe,Ni)Sb2 and the (Fe,Cr)Sb2 substitution series, phase separation has been evidenced between class‐A and B marcasites ...

Determining the Rotation Periods of an Inactive LEO Satellite and the First Korean Space Debris on GEO, KOREASAT 1 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2016
Inactive space objects are usually rotating and tumbling as a result of internal or external forces. KOREASAT 1 has been inactive since 2005, and its drift trajectory has been monitored with the optical wide-field patrol network (OWL-Net).

Crystal‐Symmetry‐Driven Build Orientation and its Impact on the {110}<100> Goss Texture Formation and Mechanical Properties of Laser Powder Bed Fused AISI 316L

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores a crystal‐symmetry‐based approach to optimize mechanical properties in laser powder bed fused AISI 316L with predominant {110}<100> Goss textures. By varying the build orientation, the microstructure can be tailored and the tensile properties optimized. The tilted build (T110) achieved the highest strength while preserving ductility,

The stability of the optical flux variation gradient for 3C120

open access: yes, 2015
New $B$- and $V$-band monitoring in 2014 $-$ 2015 reveals that the Seyfert 1 Galaxy, 3C120, has brightened by a magnitude of $1.4$, compared to our campaign that took place in 2009 $-$ 2010.
