Spectral Formation in Accreting X-Ray Pulsars: Bimodal Variation of the Cyclotron Energy with Luminosity

open access: yes, 2012
Accretion-powered X-ray pulsars exhibit significant variability of the Cyclotron Resonance Scattering Feature (CRSF) centroid energy on pulse-to-pulse timescales, and also on much longer timescales. Two types of spectral variability are observed.

Scales of the magnetic fields in the quiet Sun [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Context: The presence of a turbulent magnetic field in the quiet Sun has been unveiled observationally using different techniques. The magnetic field is quasi-isotropic and has field strengths weaker than 100G. It is pervasive and may host a local dynamo.

Al1‐xScxN‐Based Ferroelectric Domain‐Wall Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
(a) Conductive atomic force microscopy (CAFM) image of the initial state bidomain structure of the Al0.85Sc0.15N (a) showing an enhanced conductivity of the head‐to‐head domain boundary. (b) CAFM image of the same area after application of several −65 V, 1 s voltage pulses showing lower conductivity of the generated tail‐to‐tail domain walls.

Integrated Study of X-Ray Spectrum and Time Lags for HBL Mrk 421 within the Framework of the Multiple-zone Leptonic Model

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the timing analysis of 10 archived XMM-Newton observations with an exposure of >40 ks of Markarian 421. Mrk 421 is the brightest high-frequency-peaked BL Lac object emitting in X-rays produced by electrons accelerated in the innermost regions ...

Statistics of Ionospheric Storms Using GPS TEC Measurements Between 2002 and 2014 in Jeju, Korea [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2015
Using the Total Electron Content (TEC) data from the Global Navigation Service System (GNSS) site in Jeju, operated by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (geographic location: 33.3° N, 126.5° E; geomagnetic location: 23.6° N) for 2002 ...

Period changes in six contact binaries: WZ And, V803 Aql, DF Hya, PY Lyr, FZ Ori, and AH Tau

open access: yes, 2008
Six contact binaries lacking a period analysis have been chosen to search for the presence of a third body. The O-C diagrams of these binaries were analyzed with the least-squares method by using all available times of minima.

Flux‐Regulated Crystallization of Perovskites Using Machine Learning‐Predicted Solvent Evaporation Rates for X‐Ray Detectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
By integrating machine learning into flux‐regulated crystallization (FRC), accurate prediction of solvent evaporation rates in real time, improving crystallization control and reducing crystal growth variability by over threefold, is achieved. This enhances the reproducibility and quality of perovskite single crystals, leading to reproducible ...

Measuring space-time variation of the fundamental constants with redshifted submillimetre transitions of neutral carbon

open access: yes, 2011
We compare the redshifts of neutral carbon and carbon monoxide in the redshifted sources in which the fine structure transition of neutral carbon, [CI], has been detected, in order to measure space-time variation of the fundamental constants.

Detection of the temporal variation of the sun's cosmic ray shadow with the IceCube detector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We report on the observation of a deficit in the cosmic ray flux from the directions of the Moon and Sun with five years of data taken by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory.

Low‐Symmetry Weyl Semimetals: A Path to Ideal Topological States

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a theoretical framework for realizing ideal Weyl semimetals, where Weyl nodes are well‐isolated at the Fermi level. The approach is exemplified in the low‐symmetry material Cu2SnSe3, which exhibits tunable topological phases, current‐induced orbital magnetization, and a strong circular photogalvanic effect, making it a promising ...
