On a variational localization of wannier functions

AbstractA new variational localization of the Wannier functions is proposed and the corresponding equation for fixing the free phase of Bloch functions is derived for the case of non‐degenerate bands. The new equation is shown to be equivalent to a modification of the equations given by des Cloizeaux.

In this article we obtain an asymptotic formula for the approximations to functions in the class (, ) by Fourier sums in the metric of (). We find sufficient conditions and also criteria for the continuity of the derivative of a function in the class . We also give some results on the Fourier coefficients of functions in the above class.
