Classical Spatial Variation Models
2009Men have tried to model spatial behavior of the natural phenomena since a long time, with initiative simple models such as the weighting functions, which are supposed to represent regional dependence structure of the phenomenon concerned. Unfortunately, commonly employed weighting functions are not actually data-dependent and hence they are applicable ...

Ionospheric Spatial and Temporal Variations
2013It was obvious from the time of its discovery that the Earth’s ionosphere is highly variable in space and time. Its morphology affects propagation via the ionosphere and is characterized by geographical and geomagnetic variations on one hand, and daily, seasonal and solar cycle variations on the other.

Dealing with Spatial Variation
1993Linear geostatistics can provide, by kriging from soil and environmental data, local estimates that are unbiased and have minimum and known variance, and are in this sense optimal. The procedure assumes a model, usually that the variables are realizations of random processes and intrinsic sensu Matheron.

Spatial Variations in Atmospheric Predictability
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1972Abstract Calculations are made with the NCAR six-layer general circulation model to determine the time evolution of errors initially confined to a region 4000 km in diameter superimposed upon real global data. Three experiments are made to distinguish between the effects of an error located initially on the northern or southern sides of the jet stream ...

Variational Analysis Using Spatial Filters
Monthly Weather Review, 2000In this paper the standard variational analysis scheme is modified, through a simple transform, to avoid the inversion of the background error covariance matrix. A close inspection of the modified scheme reveals that it is possible to use a filter to replace the multiplication of the covariance matrix.
