Discrete double-porosity models for spin systems

open access: yes, 2015
We consider spin systems between a finite number $N$ of "species" or "phases" partitioning a cubic lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$. We suppose that interactions between points of the same phase are coercive, while between point of different phases (or, possibly ...

Convergence and regularization for monotonicity-based shape reconstruction in electrical impedance tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The inverse problem of electrical impedance tomography is severely ill-posed, meaning that, only limited information about the conductivity can in practice be recovered from boundary measurements of electric current and voltage.

‘They Need to Hear You Say It’: Healthcare Professionals’ Perspectives on Barriers and Enablers to End‐of‐Life Discussions With Adolescents and Young Adults With Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT End‐of‐life conversations with adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer rarely occur without the guidance of healthcare professionals. As a part of the ‘Difficult Discussions’ study, focused on palliative care and advance care planning discussions with AYAs with cancer, we investigated the factors that healthcare professionals identify ...

Calculus of Tangent Sets and Derivatives of Set Valued Maps under Metric Subregularity Conditions

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper we intend to give some calculus rules for tangent sets in the sense of Bouligand and Ursescu, as well as for corresponding derivatives of set-valued maps.

Variational approach to relaxed topological optimization: closed form solutions for structural problems in a sequential pseudo-time framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The work explores a specific scenario for structural computational optimization based on the following elements: (a) a relaxed optimization setting considering the ersatz (bi-material) approximation, (b) a treatment based on a non-smoothed characteristic

Infection Control Practices for Vascular Access Management in Hemodialysis: Results From a Nationwide Survey of Japanese National University Hospitals

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.

Dynamical systems and forward-backward algorithms associated with the sum of a convex subdifferential and a monotone cocoercive operator

open access: yes, 2014
In a Hilbert framework, we introduce continuous and discrete dynamical systems which aim at solving inclusions governed by structured monotone operators $A=\partial\Phi+B$, where $\partial\Phi$ is the subdifferential of a convex lower semicontinuous ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Generalized Newton's Method based on Graphical Derivatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper concerns developing a numerical method of the Newton type to solve systems of nonlinear equations described by nonsmooth continuous functions. We propose and justify a new generalized Newton algorithm based on graphical derivatives, which have
