Variational Inequality Problems

2012
The purpose of this chapter is to explain variational inequality (VI) formulations of equilibrium problems, and the close connection of a VI problem to an equivalent complementarity problem. There are sometimes advantages to a VI formulation compared to a complementarity formulation: the complementarity formulation has primal decision variables, and ...

An Outer Approximation Method for the Variational Inequality Problem

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, 2005
Summary: We study two outer approximation schemes, applied to the variational inequality problem in reflexive Banach spaces. First we propose a generic outer approximation scheme, and its convergence analysis unifies a wide class of outer approximation methods applied to the constrained optimization problem.

Variational inequalities for the stochastic reachability problem

49th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2010
Unlike the pure discrete or continuous cases, for stochastic hybrid systems the reachability analysis is still a difficult problem. The early mathematical approaches to the stochastic reachability turned out into constructive verification methods with tool support from dynamic programming.

Variational inequalities and optimization problems

2007
In this paper we survey the relationships between scalar and vector variational inequalities (of differential type) and the underlying optimizationproblem. We show that the variational inequalities of Stampacchia type can be viewed as necessary optimality conditions, while the variational inequalities of Minty type can be considered as sufficient ...

Result on Variational Inequality Problem

Sarajevo Journal of Mathematics
The aim of this paper is to present an improved and extended version of the variational inequality problem of Vetrivel and Nanda [7] by using a weaker condition in the topological vector space and without using the result of Lassonde [3].   1991 Mathematics Subject Classification.

1 Inequalities in a Variational Problem

1967
Publisher Summary The frequent occurrence of optimization problems with bounded state and control variables has revived the interest in the old subject of inequalities in the calculus of variations. This chapter discusses the inequalities in the problem of Lagrange, illustrated by two examples.
