Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is an extremely cell-associated herpesvirus with limited egress of viral particles. The induction of autophagy in VZV-infected monolayers is easily detectable; inhibition of autophagy leads to decreased VZV glycoprotein ...

Autophagy is a cellular degradation process involved in, for example, immune responses to pathogens and neurodegeneration. To identify modulators of autophagy, we developed a microscopy‐based screening assay and identified previously unknown autophagy‐modulating activities in known drugs and natural products from myxobacteria and fungi.

HERPES ZOSTER AS FIRST MANIFESTATION OF VARICELLA-ZOSTER VIRUS INFECTION IN A HEALTHY CHILD [PDF]

Fatal Chronic Varicella‐Zoster Viral Infection in a Young Man With Chediak–Higashi Syndrome
ABSTRACT Chediak–Higashi syndrome (CHS) is a rare autosomal recessive primary immunodeficiency characterized by partial oculocutaneous albinism, neurologic involvement, and a predisposition to severe infections. Patients are particularly susceptible to developing hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), which significantly worsens prognosis. We report
