Higher secant varieties of Segre-Veronese varieties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We study the dimension of the higher secant varieties $X^s$ of ${\Bbb X} = {\Bbb P}^{n_1}\times ...\times {\Bbb P}^{n_t}$ embedded the morphism given by ${\cal O}_{\Bbb X}({a_1,...,a_t})$. We call it a {\it Segre-Veronese variety} and the embedding a {\it Segre-Veronese embedding}. In several cases (e.g. for 3 factors {\Bbb P}^{1}, or when $s$ is small)

Varieties with small discriminant variety [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 2006
Let \(L\) be an ample and spanned line bundle \(L\) on a smooth complex \(n\)-dimensional projective variety \(X\), \(V\subset H^0(X,L)\) defining a morphism \(\phi_V: X\rightarrow \mathbb{P}^N\), let \(\mathcal{D}(X,V)\) be its discriminant locus (parameterizing the singular elements of \(| V| \)) and \(\phi_V(X)^\vee\) the dual variety of \(\phi_V(X)\

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Methodological aspects of applying histogram and variation curve of morphological traits of Maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids

open access: yesPlant Varieties Studying and Protection, 2013
The article provides methodological ground (method of morphological description) for identification of qualitative, quantitative and pseudo-qualitative characteristics of maize hybrids (Zea mays L) disclosing methodological facets of practical appliance ...

Richardson varieties, projected Richardson varieties and positroid varieties

open access: yes, 2023
This is a survey article on Richardson varieties and their combinatorics. A Richardson variety is the intersection, inside the flag manifold GL_n/B_+, of a Schubert cell (B_- u B_+)/B_+ and an opposite Schubert cell (B_+ w B_+)/B_+ (or the similar intersection of Schubert varieties).

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Forage Brassica Variety Trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Forage brassicas can provide a near-concentrate type diet late in the grazing season. This allows for an extra grazing opportunity after summer annuals are harvested or to supplement perennial cool season pasture during the fall months.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
