New ZnSnO3-based varistor system
Journal of Materials Science, 2004Semiconducting ceramics are widely used in electrical industries involving mobile communications, computers, signal processing, power transport, and control systems, because of their unique and useful electrical characteristics [1]. Varistors which are generally used to protect electronic circuits from voltage shock can sense and limit high transient ...

Varistor versus Environment: Winning the Rematch
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1986An unusual case of difficult application of surge protective devices was solved by field measurements with retrofit of protective devices suitable for the particular environment. Onsite measurements indicated that capacitor switching transients were causing excessive current surges in the varistors and fuses protecting the input to a thyristor motor ...

Varistor-controlled liquid-crystal displays
IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1979A new method of constructing multiplexed reflective liquid-crystal displays is described. A passive nonlinear control layer is formed by applying appropriate conductor and insulator layers to a slab of ZnO varistor material which forms the rear wall of the liquid-crystal cell, thereby, placing a varistor in series with each display element.

Application of Zinc Oxide Varistors
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1990This paper deals with the application of ZnO varistors—an area which has not been treated in a systematic way in the literature. The paper starts with a brief description of the fundamental properties comprising the electrical behavior as well as the physics, chemistry, and microstructure of the varistor.
