On the relationship between modification of Bi2O3 by Sb and type of grain boundaries in ZnO-based varistors

, 2021
The possibility of eliminating of electrically inactive areas from varistor body with maintaining varistor electrical parameters can be achieved by modifying Bi2O3 in such a way that a Bi-rich layer which surrounds the grains of ZnO is as thin as ...

Varistor Ceramics

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1999
The development of varistor ceramics is reviewed with an emphasis on ZnO‐based varistors formed by liquid‐phase sintering. Particular attention is given to the effects of microstructural disorder on the properties of varistors and to the different modes of failure that can occur.

Influence of CaO doping on phase, microstructure, electrical and dielectric properties of ZnO varistors

, 2020
In present study, impact of CaO doping on microstructure and phase electrical properties of a ZnO varistor is being reported. The doped ZnO nanopowders were prepared by solution combustion followed by conventional sintering.

Microchemistry of ZnO Varistors

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1992
ZnO varistors are made by mixing semiconducting ZnO powder with powders of other metal oxides e.g. Bi2O3, Sb2O3, CoO, MnO2, NiO, Cr2O3, SiO2 etc., followed by conventional pressing and sintering. The non-linear I-V characteristics of ZnO varistors result from the unique properties that the grain boundaries acquire as a result of dopant distribution ...

Integrated printed varistor

[1991 Proceedings] 6th Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference, 2002
Two shapes of interdigitated planar varistors were made using thick-film technology on alumina substrates. These varistor were based on ZnO paste. The distance between varistor electrodes were changed from 0.2 to 1.91 mm, and the total length of the electrodes from 49 to 230 mm.

Effects of Built-In Varistors With Low Protection Voltages on Surge Protection Performances in Low-Voltage AC Power Systems

IEEE transactions on electromagnetic compatibility (Print), 2020
Voltage and current surges originated by lightning is one of the most common cause of degradation, upset, failure, and/or damage of susceptible equipment in low-voltage (LV) ac power installations.

Sintering effect on varistor properties and degradation behavior of ZVMB varistor ceramics

Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Electronics, 2017
ZnO–V2O5–Mn3O4–Bi2O3 (ZVMB) varistor ceramics were sintered at a low temperature range of 800–875 °C, and the microstructure, electrical properties, dielectric characteristics, and DC-accelerated aging behavior were systematically investigated. Analysis of the microstructure indicated that the average grain size increased from 3.8 to 6.4 µm with the ...

Analysis of ceramic varistor

[1991] Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials, 2002
The frequency characteristics of the capacity and the dissipation factor of a ceramic ring varistor have been measured in the range from 10 kHz to 1 MHz. From the measurements, the equivalent circuit was determined, considering the internal structure of the ceramic ring varistor.
