Accurate Fault Current Phasor Estimation in Series‐Compensated Transmission Lines Using Improved Particle Swarm Optimisation

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
A new evolutionary search algorithm based on improved Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) is introduced in this study to estimate the phasor. The performance has been evaluated through extensive simulations considering transient components, harmonics, and frequency changes in noiseless and noisy conditions.

A Self‐powered LVDC Solid‐State Circuit Breaker Using Low Voltage Step‐Up DC/DC Converter

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper introduces a self‐powered LVDC solid‐state circuit breaker that harvests the forward drop of a Schottky diode via an ultra‐low voltage step‐up converter, eliminating the need for an auxiliary supply. A parallel MOSFET‐SCR conduction path and a Hall‐effect‐based electromagnet enable autonomous fault detection and tripping for both fast and ...

Improving current sharing between parallel varistors

open access: yes, 2001
Metal oxide varistors are widely used in many power electronics circuits to protect against transient over voltages. Certain applications can be very demanding on the energy handling capability of the varistors.

Thermal Runaway in Metal Oxide Varistors

open access: yes, 1981
The conditions leading to thermal runaway in metal oxide varistors are discussed in terms of its power dissipation. An equivalent circuit is used to rationalize the similarities and differences between the DC and 60 Hz ac behavior.

Kinetics deformation of current-voltage characteristics of the varistor oxide structures due to overcharging of the localized states

open access: yesTekhnologiya i Konstruirovanie v Elektronnoi Apparature, 2014
Prolonged exposure of zinc oxide varistors to the electrical load leads to current-voltage characteristics (CVC) deformation, which is associated with a change in the height and width of the intergranular barriers, which are the main structural element ...

The effects of Cu dopant on the microstructure and non-ohmic electrical properties of ZnO varistors

open access: yes, 2011
The doping effects of Cu on the microstructure and non-ohmic electrical properties of ZnO varistors were studied. Addition of Cu2O can enhance the ZnO grain growth during sintering. The SEM and EDS results revealed that the added Cu mainly distributed in
