ULTRASTRUCURAL STUDY OF BEE LOUSE VARROA DESTRUCTOR ANDERSON &TRUEMAN 2000 (ACARI: VARROIDAE) WITH RESISTANCE MODELS FROM APIS MELLIFERA L [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology, 2015
The ectoparasitic mite Varroa destructor is the most dangerous pest of honeybee Egyptian race Apis mellifera L., as it causes many losses in apiculture worldwide. Adult female mites are flattened with a dome-shaped dorsal shield.

Behavioral Resistance in Varroa destructor: First Evidence in Response to Acaricide?

open access: yesArchives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, Volume 122, Issue 3, July 2026.
Varroa mites exhibited population‐dependent behavioral responses: two populationw avoided tau‐fluvalinate, and none showed specific behavioral responses to amitraz and oxalic acid, despite contrasting phenotypical resistance profiles. ABSTRACT The ectoparasite Varroa destructor (Mesostigmata: Varroidae) poses a major threat to honey bee colonies due to

Use of essential oils for controlling the Varroa destructor acarus in Apis mellifera

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Tropical, 2012
The Varroa destructor (Acari: Varroidae) acarus is considered a major bee pest worldwide. The contamination risk of honey and wax, as well as the development of resistance by this pest, have led to the need of alternative ways for replacing conventional ...

Mitochondrial COI and cytb Characterisation of K‐Lineage Varroa destructor Isolates From Kastamonu, Türkiye

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 4, July 2026.
This study provides the molecular characterisation and phylogenetic analysis of Varroa destructor collected in Kastamonu, Türkiye. Using mitochondrial COI and cytb markers, the research identifies an identical K‐lineage, offering critical insights into the genetic diversity and evolutionary relationships within the region's mite populations.

Challenges for developing pathogen-based biopesticides against Varroa destructor (Mesostigmata: Varroidae)

open access: yesApidologie, 2012
Control of the major pest of apiculture, the ectoparasitic mite Varroa destructor using pathogen-based biopesticides would resolve many of the problems experienced with other forms of control, such as chemical control, hive manipulation, or selection of resistant honeybee strains.

Gene‐specific double‐stranded RNAs induce mortality in the South African mealybug Delottococcus aberiae

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 6, Page 5184-5194, June 2026.
Gene‐specific double‐stranded RNAs effectively silence essential genes in the invasive citrus pest Delottococcus aberiae, leading to significant mortality through both microinjection and oral delivery. These results provide proof of concept for RNA interference‐based biopesticides as selective and sustainable tools for citrus integrated pest management.

An Insight Into the microRNA Profile of the Ectoparasitic Mite Varroa destructor (Acari: Varroidae), the Primary Vector of Honey Bee Deformed Wing Virus

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2022
The remarkably adaptive mite Varroa destructor is the most important honey bee ectoparasite. Varroa mites are competent vectors of deformed wing virus (DWV), and the Varroa-virus complex is a major determinant of annual honey bee colony mortality and ...

Response of Amblyseius swirskii to deltamethrin

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 6, Page 2800-2811, June 2025.
The analysis of toxicological and molecular data reveals target‐site as well as metabolic modifications associated with the resistance to deltamethrin in Amblyseius swirskii colonies. However, semi‐field assays show increased run‐off behavior after treatments with the same pesticide.

Grooming Behaviour of Honey Bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae) on Varroa (Mesostigmata: Varroidae)

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Entomología, 2010
Among the factors that can help to diminish and control populations of Varroa destructor in colonies of Apis mellifera is grooming behaviour. This behaviour consists of the capacity of the bee to detect, bite and eliminate parasites in the phoretic ...
