Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Light Transmission by Lotus Plant Stem and Leaf Tissue: Natural Textiles for Optical Fibers

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers, 2017
Application of plant stem for optical transmitting devices is considered. This research indicates a possibility of application of vascular bundles as natural textiles for optical fibers. Observations of lotus stem tissue were carried out.

Induction of tetraploidy in Juncus effusus by colchicine

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2010
Tetraploidy was induced in vitro in mat rush (Juncus effusus L.) cultivar Nonglin-4 by exposure to colchicine (0, 50, 100 and 500 mg dm-3) for 6, 12 and 24 h. Flow cytometric analysis was used to confirm the ploidy level.

Functional analysis of the Arabidopsis TETRASPANIN gene family in plant growth and development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
TETRASPANIN (TET) genes encode conserved integral membrane proteins that are known in animals to function in cellular communication during gamete fusion, immunity reaction and pathogen recognition.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Expression analysis of the Arabidopsis thaliana AtSpen2 gene, and its relationship with other plant genes encoding Spen proteins

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2017
Proteins of the Split ends (Spen) family are characterized by an N-terminal domain, with one or more RNA recognition motifs and a SPOC domain. In Arabidopsis thaliana, the Spen protein FPA is involved in the control of flowering time as a component of an

Vascular Tissues Distribution Affects Calcium and Calcium Oxalate Crystals in Fruits of Wild Tomato (Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium (L.) Mill.)

open access: yesPlants, 2023
Tomato fruit is an excellent model for evaluating calcium regulation in plants since it expresses symptoms of either calcium deficiency or calcium excess.
