MicroRNAs in Vascular Biology and Vascular Disease [PDF]
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as a novel class of endogenous, small, non-coding RNAs that negatively regulate over 30% of genes in a cell via degradation or translational inhibition of their target mRNAs. Functionally, an individual miRNA is important as a transcription factor because it is able to regulate the expression of its multiple target genes.

The incidence and risk factors for new onset atrial fibrillation in the PROSPER study [PDF]
Aims Atrial fibrillation/flutter (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in older people. It associates with reduced exercise capacity, increased risk of stroke, and mortality. We aimed to determine retrospectively whether pravastatin reduces the incidence of

Constructing an early warning model for elderly sepsis patients based on machine learning
Sepsis is a serious threat to human life. Early prediction of high-risk populations for sepsis is necessary especially in elderly patients. Artificial intelligence shows benefits in early warning.

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline

Hyperhomocysteinemia: an independent risk factor for vascular disease.
BACKGROUND Hyperhomocysteinemia arising from impaired methionine metabolism, probably usually due to a deficiency of cystathionine beta-synthase, is associated with premature cerebral, peripheral, and possibly coronary vascular disease. Both the strength

The role of circular RNAs in regulating cytokine signaling in cancer
Cytokines present in the tumor microenvironment fuel cancer development. Aberrant expression of circRNAs contributes to cancer progression. Cytokines are involved in regulating circRNA biogenesis. Furthermore, aberrantly expressed circRNAs regulate the expression of ligands, receptors, and downstream effectors involved in cytokine signaling to promote ...

Development of 4T1 breast cancer mouse model system for preclinical carbonic anhydrase IX studies
Carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX) is a well‐recognised therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker in cancer. We developed and characterised a robust murine breast cancer model system that is suitable for CAIX studies in vitro and in vivo—it comprises both CAIX‐positive and CAIX‐negative controls and provides a solid platform for the comprehensive ...
