Abstract The incidence and type of vascular injury differs in different geographical locations. Blunt and iatrogenic injuries are the two most common causes of vascular trauma in most European countries including the United Kingdom. However, in the United States, most vascular injuries are the result of stab or gunshot wounds.

Abstract The circulation distal to any displaced fracture or dislocation should always be examined and noted. The obvious thing to record is the presence of the peripheral pulses but unfortunately this does not reliably exclude an arterial injury.
