Abnormalities of vascular function in resistant hypertension

open access: yesBlood Pressure, 2011
We aimed to evaluate markers of vascular dysfunction in patients with resistant hypertension (RH). A group of 144 patients (61 years, 42% women) with essential RH were divided in two groups based on ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). True RH (72%) was considered when 24-h blood pressure (BP) was ≥ 130 and/or 80 mmHg.

Extraction of Vascular Wall in Carotid Ultrasound via a Novel Boundary-Delineation Network [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Ultrasound imaging plays an important role in the diagnosis of vascular lesions. Accurate segmentation of the vascular wall is important for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases. However, existing methods have inaccurate localization of the vascular wall boundary.

Normalization of blood pressure and renal vascular resistance in SHR with a membrane-permeable superoxide dismutase mimetic: role of nitric oxide.

open access: yesHYPERTENSION, 1998
Superoxide radical (O2-) is increased in the vessel wall of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) where its blockade potentiates endothelium-dependent vasodilation.

Fine-grained simulations of the microenvironment of vascularized tumours [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
One of many important features of the tumour microenvironment is that it is a place of active Darwinian selection where different tumour clones become adapted to the variety of ecological niches that make up the microenvironment. These evolutionary processes turn the microenvironment into a powerful source of tumour heterogeneity and contribute to the ...

Primary Role of the Kidney in Pathogenesis of Hypertension

open access: yesLife
Previous transplantation studies and the concept of ‘nephron underdosing’ support the idea that the kidney plays a crucial role in the development of essential hypertension.

Revisiting PI3-kinase signalling in angiogenesis

open access: yesVascular Biology, 2019
PI3Ks belong to a family of lipid kinases that comprises eight isoforms. They phosphorylate the third position of the inositol ring present in phosphatidylinositol lipids and, in turn, activate a broad range of proteins. The PI3K pathway regulates primal

Nitric oxide regulates basal systemic and pulmonary vascular resistance in healthy humans.

open access: yesCirculation, 1994
BACKGROUND The endothelium synthesizes and releases a relaxing factor with the physiochemical properties of nitric oxide (NO). However, the role of endothelium-derived NO in the basal regulation of systemic and pulmonary vascular resistance in humans is ...

Ultrafast ultrasound coded vector Doppler imaging of blood flow velocity and resistivity [PDF]

open access: yesS. Yan, Y. Ding, G. Ma, Y. Fu, K. Xu, and D. Ta, Ultrafast Ultrasound Coded Vector Doppler Imaging of Blood Flow Velocity and Resistivity, Acta Physica Sinica, vol. 74, no. 1, 2025
Dynamic and precise measurement of cerebral blood flow velocity is crucial in neuroscience and the diagnosis of cerebrovascular diseases. Traditional color Doppler ultrasound can only measure the velocity component along the ultrasound beam, which restricts its ability to accurately capture the complete blood flow vector in complex environments.
