Sodium Cotransport in Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
Journal of Vascular Research, 1991Vascular smooth muscle cells possess a number of Na cotransport systems. Three of these cotransport systems, Na/Ca exchange, Na/H exchange and Na-K-Cl cotransport, have been the subject of an increasing number of investigations to determine the respective roles of these transporters in vascular smooth muscle cell function.

Human Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Culture
2011Human vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in culture are an important tool in understanding how VSMCs function and contribute to vessel wall contraction as well as disease. In this chapter, we describe methodologies that enable the investigator to culture large numbers of proliferative VSMCs.

Calcium Channels in Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
Journal of Vascular Research, 1995Control of intracellular Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) is critical to vascular smooth muscle function. Calcium channels are the major route by which Ca2+ enters the smooth muscle cell. This article reviews the types of calcium channel present in vascular smooth muscle cells and their physiological and biochemical regulation.

Regulation of differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells
Physiological Reviews, 1995The vascular smooth muscle cell (SMC) in mature animals is a highly specialized cell whose principal function is contraction. The fully differentiated or mature SMC proliferates at an extremely low rate and is a cell almost completely geared for contraction.

Calcium in the Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell
1976These experiments were designed to show whether the sheep carotid artery loses its response to electrical discharges in Ca-free solution at a rate that can be accounted for by diffusion delays, or so slowly as to indicate that depolarization can utilize cell Ca stores in the absence of extracellular Ca.
