Utility of Multidetector Computed Tomography Angiography in evaluation of post traumatic neglected vascular injuries of the upper extremity

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2016
Background: Vascular injuries of the upper limb are rare, and CT angiography (CTA) may be performed to assess vascular complications in neglected trauma patients.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Cerebral Vascular and Metabolic Response to Sustained Systemic Inflammation in Ovine Traumatic Brain Injury [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism, 2004
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is frequently accompanied by a systemic inflammatory response secondary to multiple trauma, shock, or infections. This study investigated the impact of sustained systemic inflammation on cerebral hemodynamics and metabolism in ovine traumatic brain injury.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

The additional value of the arterial phase in the CT assessment of liver vascular injuries after high-energy blunt trauma

open access: yes, 2019
Purpose: In the literature, no consensus exists about which CT protocol is to be adopted in patients who underwent high-energy blunt trauma. The aim of the study is to evaluate the additional value of the arterial phase in the CT assessment of vascular ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
