The cryoglobulinemic vasculitis
La Ricerca in Clinica e in Laboratorio, 1986Thirty-eight patients with essential mixed cryoglobulinemia (EMC: 16 type II and 22 type III) were evaluated. Almost all patients had clinical manifestations which could be related to a cutaneous and/or visceral vasculitic process. No significant clinical or laboratory differences were found between type II and type III EMC patients.

The term vasculitis implies inflammation affecting predominantly the blood vessels. The effects of the process depend on the location of the inflammatory change and the size and type of the vessel involved. It is unclear why there is selectivity for vessels of a certain type, size, or location.
