Vasectomy is an excellent method of permanent contraception for the couple whose family is complete, who are mature and fully informed, and who will accept permanent sterility. Vasectomy and vasectomy reversal
British Journal of Urology, 1989Vasectomy remains the safest method of birth control and there is much to commend it in the setting of a stable family relationship. The nature of the local histopathologic changes secondary to vasectomy is described in tissue excised at vasovasostomy in 37 secondarily infertile patients. Segments of surgically removed vasa were also studied in four patients with primary infertility who underwent scrotal explorations and subsequent vasoepididymostomy.

Vasectomy, in experienced hands, is a simple procedure which produces lasting sterility provided a careful follow-up of seminal tests is performed, and continued, until two consecutive negative tests have been produced. Loss of working time is negligible, and unpleasant sequelae are extremely rare.
