Coronary vasoconstriction and catecholamine cardiomyopathy

American Heart Journal, 1985
Norepinephrine (NE) causes extensive myocardial injury in the rabbit. To investigate a potential mechanism we measured coronary blood flow with radioactive microspheres. Coronary resistance and oxygen demand (heart rate-blood pressure double product) were calculated. Severity of injury was determined by semiquantitative histologic evaluation.

Hypoxic vasoconstriction of cyclostome systemic vessels: the antecedent of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction?

American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 2001
Hypoxic vasoconstriction (HV) is an intrinsic response of mammalian pulmonary vascular smooth muscle (VSM). In the present study, HV was examined by myography of vessel rings from three primitive vertebrates: New Zealand hagfish (NZH), Pacific hagfish (PH), and sea lamprey (SL). Hypoxia dilated pre-gill arteries (ventral aorta, afferent branchial) from

Hypoxic Pulmonary Vasoconstriction

Chest, 1982
Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV) is a homeostatic mechanism that, in the adult animal, diverts desaturated, mixed venous blood from poorly ventilated (hypoxic) areas of the lung to other, better ventilated (normoxic) areas of lung. Because of the relatively small amount of actively metabolizing tissue in the lungs, the proximity of the small ...
