Significance of vasospasm in the treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysms
Journal of Neurosurgery, 1977✓ The authors have analyzed a total of 96 consecutive cases in which vasospasm followed subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). The SAH was caused by ruptured intracranial aneurysm or developed after aneurysm surgery. Usually at least 4 days elapsed between SAH and the onset of vasospasm. Vasospasm subsided an average of 2 weeks after onset. Of 68 patients with

Vasospasm With Subarachnoid Hemorrhage From Intracranial Aneurysm
Archives of Surgery, 1965VASOSPASM accompanying aneurysm of the intracranial portion of the internal carotid artery or its branches or other cerebral vessels may complicate the clinical picture and also render surgical management of the aneurysm more difficult. It may occur whether or not the aneurysm has bled but is more common after subarachnoid hemorrhage from leakage or ...

Use of Extracranial-Intracranial Bypass in the Management of Symptomatic Vasospasm
Neurosurgery, 1986Abstract Delayed ischemic deficits from vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage remain a major source of death and disability to patients surviving subarachnoid hemorrhage. Ideal treatment for this condition would prevent or reverse spasm in major subarachnoid vessels. This goal remains elusive.

Vasospasm of the Vertebrobasilar System in Cases of Ruptured Intracranial Aneurysm
Neurosurgery, 1983Abstract The reported incidence of vasospasm in cases of ruptured vertebrobasilar (VB) aneurysm varies considerably. The classification into local and diffuse spasm may partially explain the discrepancy. In the present small series, we found that local spasm is more common than diffuse spasm, which is rare in cases of ruptured VB ...

Prognostic correlation with the cerebral vasospasm and the direct operation for the intracranial aneurysm [PDF]
1) Direct operations were performed on 218 cases out of 254 cases of intracranial aneurysms experienced by us until the end of March, 1969. The follow-up study ranging from 6 months to 9 years after the operation showed that 19 patients died during hospitalization, 3 patients died within 6 months (the cause of death in 2 of them was unrelated to ...

Endovascular Treatment of Intracranial Stenosis and Vasospasm
2009This chapter discusses techniques for intracranial angioplasty and stenting for atherosclerotic arterial stenosis, and angioplasty and intra-arterial drug infusion for cerebral vasospasm after aneurysmal SAH. Complication avoidance and management are covered.

Cerebral Vasospasm and Ruptured Intracranial Aneurysm
Archives of Neurology, 1975The literature concerning cerebral vasospasm associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) due to ruptured intracranial aneurysm contains no definitive study of patients to determine whether there is (1) any clinical picture consistently present coincident with known cerebral vasospasm, (2) any relationship between mortality and known vasospasm, and (3)

An analysis of vasospasm following early surgery for intracranial aneurysms
Acta Neurochirurgica, 198241 patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms were all submitted to an early operation, (within 3 days from SAH), and evaluated with regard to the results of treatment. In this group, vasospasm has influenced the outcome more than other causes, accounting for 58% of morbidity and 64% of mortality.
