Management of vasospastic angina
Heart, 2022Vasospastic angina is a well-established cause of chest pain that is caused by coronary artery spasm. It can be clinically diagnosed during a spontaneous episode by documenting nitrate-responsive rest angina with associated transient ischaemic ECG changes but more often requires provocative coronary spasm testing with acetylcholine during coronary ...

Capecitabine and vasospastic angina: a clinical case
Kardiologiia, 2022The article presents a clinical case of a 78-year-old female patient with a clinical picture of vasospastic angina during the capecitabin treatment. The issues under discussion include difficulties of diagnosing vasospastic angina, a potential danger and incidence of coronary vasospastic reactions during chemotherapy with drugs of this group, and ...

Non-invasive diagnosis of vasospastic angina
Journal of Nuclear Cardiology, 2023Vasospastic angina (VSA), or variant angina, is an under-recognized cause of chest pain and myocardial infarction, especially in Western countries. VSA leads to a declined quality of life and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality.

Vasospastic angina in a patient with hyperthyroidism
Herz, 2012A 56-year-old man presented with typical angina pectoris lasting >20 min associated with precordial ST-segment elevation. Urgent coronary angiography showed critical stenosis in the proximal segment of the left anterior descending artery, which resolved with intracoronary nitrate application. He was subsequently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism secondary

Capecitabine induced vasospastic angina
International Journal of Cardiology, 2008Cardiotoxicity is a recognised side effect of intravenous 5-fluorouracils. In the two case reports described we demonstrate similar cardiotoxic side effects seen with the use of capecitabine. With the increasing use of oral adjuvant chemotherapeutic agents, capecitabine should be used with caution in those patients with existing coronary artery disease.

Epidemiology of Vasospastic Angina
2020Vasospastic angina (VSA) is one of the important functional cardiac disorders characterized by transient myocardial ischemia due to epicardial coronary artery spasm. The term of VSA is basically synonymous with the terms Prinzmetal’s angina and variant angina, and is known to be associated with a wide variety of cardiac ischemic conditions, including ...

Vasospastic angina, a form of angina pectoris due to coronary artery spasm responds to nitrates and calcium antagonists in majority of the cases. Rarely, they are unresponsive to conventional treatment, and recurrent ischemia can lead to ventricular arrhythmias, myocardial infarction and sudden death.

The Calcium Antagonists in Vasospastic Angina
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1991Coronary vasospasm is an important pathophysiologic mechanism of angina at rest. Because the calcium antagonists are potent vasodilators, they have become widely used and are now considered the treatment of choice for vasospastic angina. Practically all currently available calcium antagonists in the United States have been shown to be efficacious and ...

The Pathogenesis of Vasospastic Angina
2013Coronary artery spasm plays an important role in the pathogenesis of ischemic heart disease presentations, including sudden cardiac death, and thus could be one of the most important functional abnormalities of the coronary artery. Coronary spasm is caused primarily by smooth muscle hypercontraction whereas the contribution of endothelial dysfunction ...
