EFFECT OF VASOTOCIN AND OXYTOCIN ON OVIPOSITION IN THE HEN [PDF]

open access: yesReproduction, 1970
Summary. Intravenous injection of vasotocin in the hen induced premature oviposition within a few minutes. The sensitivity of the oviduct both to vasotocin and oxytocin rose towards the time of normal oviposition. Vasotocin exhibited a much greater oviposition-inducing activity than oxytocin.

Sequence and organization of coelacanth neurohypophysial hormone genes: Evolutionary history of the vertebrate neurohypophysial hormone gene locus

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2008
Background The mammalian neurohypophysial hormones, vasopressin and oxytocin are involved in osmoregulation and uterine smooth muscle contraction respectively.

Reproductive roles of the vasopressin/oxytocin neuropeptide family in teleost fishes

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2022
The vertebrate nonapeptide families arginine vasopressin (AVP) and oxytocin (OXT) are considered to have evolved from a single vasopressin-like peptide present in invertebrates and termed arginine vasotocin in early vertebrate evolution.

Nonapeptide Receptor Distributions in Promising Avian Models for the Neuroecology of Flocking

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
Collective behaviors, including flocking and group vocalizing, are readily observable across a diversity of free-living avian populations, yet we know little about how neural and ecological factors interactively regulate these behaviors. Because of their

Arginine Vasotocin and Cortisol Co-regulate Vasotocinergic, Isotocinergic, Stress, and Thyroid Pathways in the Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus aurata)

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
In teleosts, a complex interaction between several endocrine axes modulates physiological functions related to metabolism, stress, and osmoregulation.

Neurohypophysial Hormones Associated with Osmotic Challenges in the Brain and Pituitary of the Euryhaline Black Porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegelii

open access: yesCells, 2021
Our study showed differential expression of the arginine vasotocin (avt)/isotocin (it) in the brain and pituitary gland of the euryhaline black porgy (Acanthopagrus schlegelii) during osmotic stress.

Oxytocin and vasotocin receptor variation and the evolution of human prosociality

open access: yesComprehensive Psychoneuroendocrinology, 2022
Modern human lifestyle strongly depends on complex social traits like empathy, tolerance and cooperation. These diverse facets of social cognition have been associated with variation in the oxytocin receptor (OTR) and its sister genes, the vasotocin ...

Arginine Vasotocin, the Social Neuropeptide of Amphibians and Reptiles

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2017
Arginine vasotocin (AVT) is the non-mammalian homolog of arginine vasopressin (AVP) and, like vasopressin, serves as an important modulator of social behavior in addition to its peripheral functions related to osmoregulation, reproductive physiology, and

Neuroanatomical evidence that kisspeptin directly regulates isotocin and vasotocin neurons. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Neuropeptide kisspeptin has been suggested to be an essential central regulator of reproduction in response to changes in serum gonadal steroid concentrations.

Preoptic Area Activation and Vasotocin Involvement in the Reproductive Behavior of a Weakly Pulse-Type Electric Fish, Brachyhypopomus gauderio

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2019
Social behavior exhibits a wide diversity among vertebrates though it is controlled by a conserved neural network, the social behavior network (SBN). The activity of the SBN is shaped by hypothalamic nonapeptides of the vasopressin-oxytocin family.
