Summary This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Jenny McConnell's vastus lateralis (VL) inhibition taping technique on VL and vastus medialis obliquus (VMO) muscle activity, and its possible application in quadriceps rehabilitation, particularly in patellofemoral pain syndrome.

The vastus lateralis muscle: An anatomical investigation
Clinical Anatomy, 2010AbstractAnterior knee pain or patellofemoral pain syndrome is commonly encountered by clinicians, but the pathogenesis of this condition is not well understood. While much research has centred around the relationship between vastus medialis and anterior knee pain, little is known about the most lateral of the quadriceps muscle group, vastus lateralis ...

Vastus lateralis release for painful bipartite patella
Arthroscopy - Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery, 2002Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of vastus lateralis release for painful bipartite patella. We have also compared the results of open method versus arthroscopic method using a holmium:YAG laser system (OmniPulse Holmium Laser System; Trimedyne Inc, Irvine,

Variability and reliability of the vastus lateralis muscle anatomy
Acta Chirurgica Belgica, 2016The aims of this study are to investigate the variability of the morphological and neurovascular anatomy of the vastus lateralis (VL) muscle and to describe the relationships among its intramuscular partitions and with the other muscles of the quadriceps femoris.

Anatomy of Vastus Lateralis Muscle Flap
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2010A vastus lateralis muscle flap is used as a pedicled and free flap. In this study, the vastus lateralis muscles of 15 adult formalin-fixed cadavers (30 cases) were dissected. The dominant pedicle was found to be descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery. The mean diameter of the artery was found to be 2.1 mm.

The Vastus Lateralis Muscle Flap
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1980The vastus lateralis muscle can provide a broad sheet of muscle for repair of defects of the lower abdomen, groin, perineum, hip, and ischium. The authors limit the use of the vastus lateralis muscle to situations in which more traditional techniques are not feasible.

Anterolateral Thigh / Vastus Lateralis Flap
2011In 1984, Song and coworkers described the thigh as a donor site for three new flaps, which they raised from its posterior, anteromedial, and anterolateral aspect [500]. Of these three flaps, the anterolateral thigh flap became most popular, especially in head and neck reconstruction.

Primary thinning of the myocutaneous vastus lateralis flap
International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2000To expand the indicational spectrum of the myocutaneous vastus lateralis flap, which is often too voluminous for intraoral application, primary thinning of the fat and muscle component of this microsurgical transplant was performed in 14 patients. The surgical technique includes subfascial localization of at least one myocutaneous perforating vessel of

Primary Hydatid Cyst of Vastus Lateralis Muscle
Acta Chirurgica Belgica, 2004Musculoskeletal system is rarely involved by hydatid cyst, the larval form of Echinococcus Granulosus. A 37-year old man was diagnosed as having a cystic mass within his left thigh musculature. Preoperative computerized tomography suggested an unusual location of echinococcus although serology could not confirm the diagnosis.

Versatility of the Free Vastus Lateralis Muscle Flap
Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection & Critical Care, 2008A flap that carries sufficient tissue with satisfactory pedicle length or diameter and with minor donor site morbidity is an ideal option for the reconstructive surgeon. Many flaps have been described with each one having specific advantages. The vastus lateralis (VL)-muscle flap is among them, but no special attention has been given to its valuable ...
