Primary Hydatid Cyst of Vastus Lateralis Muscle
Acta Chirurgica Belgica, 2004Musculoskeletal system is rarely involved by hydatid cyst, the larval form of Echinococcus Granulosus. A 37-year old man was diagnosed as having a cystic mass within his left thigh musculature. Preoperative computerized tomography suggested an unusual location of echinococcus although serology could not confirm the diagnosis.

Variability and reliability of the vastus lateralis muscle anatomy
Acta Chirurgica Belgica, 2016The aims of this study are to investigate the variability of the morphological and neurovascular anatomy of the vastus lateralis (VL) muscle and to describe the relationships among its intramuscular partitions and with the other muscles of the quadriceps femoris.

Versatility of the Free Vastus Lateralis Muscle Flap
Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection & Critical Care, 2008A flap that carries sufficient tissue with satisfactory pedicle length or diameter and with minor donor site morbidity is an ideal option for the reconstructive surgeon. Many flaps have been described with each one having specific advantages. The vastus lateralis (VL)-muscle flap is among them, but no special attention has been given to its valuable ...

Vastus lateralis muscle volume prediction in early-adolescent boys
Journal of Biomechanics, 2021The applicability of a simplified approach for muscle volume assessment, based on multiplying muscle length, maximum anatomical cross-sectional area (ACSAmax) and a muscle-specific shape factor, was investigated in the present study for the vastus lateralis muscle of early-adolescent boys. Muscle length, ACSAmax and volume were calculated from magnetic

Isolated tuberculosis of the vastus lateralis muscle: A Case report
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2006Tuberculosis is 1 of the most deadly diseases in the world. With an increase in the incidence of HIV worldwide, tubercular infections at unusual sites are being reported. Skeletal muscle tuberculosis without bony involvement is an extremely rare presentation of tuberculosis.

Gross morphology of the vastus lateralis muscle: An anatomical review
Clinical Anatomy, 2009AbstractTo understand the role of the vastus lateralis (VL) muscle in the pathogenesis of common knee disorders such as patellofemoral joint syndrome, knowledge of its anatomical structure is essential. The aim of this study was to review currently available information on the gross morphology of VL. A structured literature review was undertaken and 36

Buffering capacity of deproteinized human vastus lateralis muscle
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1985The in vitro deproteinized vastus lateralis muscle buffer capacity, carnosine, and histidine levels were examined in 20 men from 4 distinct populations (5 sprinters, 800-m runners; 5 rowers; 5 marathoners; 5 untrained). Needle biopsies were obtained at rest from the vastus lateralis muscle.

The reliability of muscle biopsies taken from vastus lateralis
Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, 1999The purpose of this study was to examine whether a single biopsy sample of vastus lateralis could provide an accurate estimate of capillary density (CD) which is indicative of the entire muscle, or whether capillary density is distributed unevenly and varies with muscle depth.

Physical Therapy, 1990
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the vastus medialis oblique muscle (VMO) had greater electrical activity than the vastus lateralis muscle (VL) when hip adduction and medial (internal) tibial rotation exercises were performed. Electrical activity of the VMO and VL was measured on 25 healthy subjects during maximal-effort isometric ...
