Like the theory of the second best that the 2006 congress marks, the VAT is now fifty years old. Judged by the extent and speed of its spread around the world, and the revenue that it raises, the VAT would seem to have been a remarkable success. Over the last few years, however, it has come under a series of attacks.

Additive Manufacturing of Alumina‐Reinforced Elastomers
Vat‐photopolymerized elastomers reinforced with platelet‐shaped alumina exhibited preferential orientation, reduced porosity, and significantly enhanced mechanical performance. A 3 wt% platelet loading increased tensile strength from 12.4 to 45.7 MPa, highlighting the critical role of filler morphology in elastomeric VPP composites.

Bioprinting High‐Cell‐Density Cardiac Tissue Constructs With Sustained Contractile Function
Contractile cardiomyocytes in 3D culture provide insights into the behavior of the heart. Combining a 3D bioprinting approach with a multi‐electrode array allows the development of the 3D culture to be monitored over time, and matured cultures allow the effect of drugs on cardiac function to be modelled, replicating effects seen in clinical application.
