Effect of quantum confinement on the dielectric function of PbSe [PDF]
Monolayers of lead selenide nanocrystals of a few nanometers in height have been made by electrodeposition on a Au(111) substrate. These layers show a thickness-dependent dielectric function, which was determined using spectroscopic ellipsometry.

Increasing heat will be a significant problem for Central European cities in the future. Shading devices are discussed as a method to mitigate heat stress on citizens. To analyze the physical processes, which are characteristic of shading in terms of urban human‐biometeorology, experimental investigations on the thermal effects of shading by a building

Zinc and iron concentrations were determined after digestion, water, and three‐step sequential extractions of contaminated soils. Analyses were carried out using flame absorption spectrometry with two background correctors: a deuterium lamp used as the continuum light source (D2 method) and the high‐speed self‐reversal method (HSSR method).
