On the magnetic structure of the solar transition region

open access: yes, 2008
We examine the hypothesis that ``cool loops'' dominate emission from solar transition region plasma below temperatures of $2\times10^5$K. We compare published VAULT images of H L$\alpha$, a lower transition region line, with near-contemporaneous ...

The vault complex

open access: yesCellular and Molecular Life Sciences (CMLS), 2003
Vaults are large ribonucleoprotein particles found in eukaryotic cells. They are composed of multiple copies of a Mr 100,000 major vault protein and two minor vault proteins of Mr 193,000 and 240,000, as well as small untranslated RNAs of 86-141 bases.

AI in chemical engineering: From promise to practice

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) in chemical engineering has moved from promise to practice: physics‐aware (gray‐box) models are gaining traction, reinforcement learning complements model predictive control (MPC), and generative AI powers documentation, digitization, and safety workflows.

Combined Long‐Read Genome and Transcriptome Sequencing Establishes Novel Variants in MEGF8 as the Cause for Carpenter Syndrome Type 2

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Carpenter syndrome type 2 (CRPT2) is a rare autosomal recessive disease mainly characterized by craniosynostosis and polysyndactyly. CRPT2 is the rarer subtype of Carpenter syndrome (CRPTS) and is caused by biallelic variants in the multiple epidermal growth factor‐like domains 8 gene (MEGF8).

The influence of a visual target point on the onset of visual regulation and kinematics on the approach run while performing the Tsukahara vault in artistic gymnastics

open access: yesHuman Movement
Purpose The study examined if a visual target for the hurdle take-off affects the onset of visual regulation and hurdle kinematics during the approach run in a vaulting event.

Finite element analysis of feeding in red and gray squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris and Sciurus carolinensis)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Invasive gray squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) have replaced the native red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) across much of Great Britain over the last century. Several factors have been proposed to underlie this replacement, but here we investigated the potential for dietary competition in which gray squirrels have better feeding performance than ...

Human Vault Nanoparticle Targeted Delivery of Antiretroviral Drugs to Inhibit Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Infection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
"Vaults" are ubiquitously expressed endogenous ribonucleoprotein nanoparticles with potential utility for targeted drug delivery. Here, we show that recombinant human vault nanoparticles are readily engulfed by certain key human peripheral blood ...

A detailed redescription of a skeletally immature ‘Redondasaurus’ suggests ontogenetic transformations in the taxon mirror phytosaurian morphological evolution

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The study of morphological evolution is fundamentally tied to ontogeny, yet studies of these heterochronic processes in the fossil record are rare. Fossils belonging to an ontogenetic series are difficult to assign to an ontogenetic stage due to inconsistent proxies for skeletal ages, challenging to taxonomically assign due to morphological ...
