Egomotion and Vection in Young and Elderly Adults
Gerontology, 2009Background: Elderly people tend to rely upon their visual input more than upon that from other sensory systems due to age-related declines. This reliance upon vision places older adults at risk for falls because they are often not aware of the magnitude of their body motion.

Vection Responses in Patients With Early Glaucoma
Journal of Glaucoma, 2019Purpose: Our lab has previously shown that patients with early glaucoma have longer vection latencies than controls. We attempted to explain this finding using a combined index of structure and function (CSFI), as proposed by Medeiros and colleagues. The CSFI estimates the proportion of retinal ganglion cell loss.

Vection with large screen 3D imagery
Conference companion on Human factors in computing systems common ground - CHI '96, 1996Vection is the illusory impression of self motion that can be obtained when an observer views a I,argescreen display containing a rotating or translating pattern. To aid in our construction of an interactive large screen interface to virtual 3D environments, we conducted studies to determine the factors which induce a sense of vection.

Directional preponderance in pitch circular vection
Journal of Vestibular Research, 2000We used optokinetic stimulation (OKS) in eighteen normal adults aged 18–30 years to investigate vertical self-motion perception. In order to induce self-rotation, either a stripe pattern or a random dot pattern was projected onto the inner wall of a hemispherical dome with a diameter of 150 cm.

Emotional Sounds Influence Vertical Vection
Perception, 2012While viewing a large vertically moving sinusoidal luminance grating, the perception of upward self-motion (vection) was modulated by positive sounds (eg a baby's laughter). This may be because positive emotion and the spatial metaphor of vertical directions were unified in the mind.

Perceived Gravitoinertial Force During Vection
Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine, 2013When we ride on a roller coaster, our experience of self-motion is accompanied by salient changes in gravitoinertial force. Here we examined whether a similar relationship exists between visually induced self-motion (vection) and perceived gravitoinertial force. There were 15 stationary subjects, each wearing a weight jacket, who were exposed to visual ...

Circular Vection is Independent of Stimulus Eccentricity
Perception, 1988The sensation of self-rotation induced by viewing a surround rotating about the observer's vertical axis (circular vection or CV) was investigated with equal-area stimuli located in either the central, the mid-peripheral, or the far-peripheral visual field.
