YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Insecticide-treated screening of windows for household protection against insecticide-resistant Anopheles gambiae sensu lato in Côte d’Ivoire: a semi-field trial

open access: yesParasites & Vectors
Background Despite the significant impact of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS) on malaria, 597,000 deaths from malaria were still recorded in 2023. Additional measures are clearly needed to complement current tools.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Chikungunya: an unusual vector-borne disease. Overview and new research trends [PDF]

open access: yes
Since the huge epidemic of Chikungunya in 2006 in Réunion Island and in India, and since the small outbreak in 2007 in Italy, a few Chikungunya cases were reported in september 2010 in the south-east of France, indicating that even northern and developed

MiR‐513a promotes human erythroid differentiation by modulating c‐Jun

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
During early human erythropoiesis, miR‐513a promoted erythroid differentiation in primary human CD34+ hematopoietic stem‐progenitor cells and human TF‐1 erythroleukemic cells by indirectly decreasing c‐Jun and phospho‐c‐Jun expression, which are associated with increased GATA1 expression.

Necessary conditions involving Lie brackets for impulsive optimal control problems; the commutative case

open access: yes
In this article we study control problems with systems that are governed by ordinary differential equations whose vector fields depend linearly in the time derivatives of some components of the control.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Estimated density of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto-infected Ixodes scapularis nymphs in the eastern United States

open access: yesParasites & Vectors
Background Most vector-borne disease cases reported in the United States are caused by pathogens spread by blacklegged ticks, Ixodes scapularis. Of these, a majority are Lyme disease cases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (s.s.). Because most

Vivax malaria: a possible stumbling block for malaria elimination in India

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
Plasmodium vivax is geographically the most widely dispersed human malaria parasite species. It has shown resilience and a great deal of adaptability. Genomic studies suggest that P. vivax originated from Asia or Africa and moved to the rest of the world.
