CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

BOOL-AN: A method for comparative sequence analysis and phylogenetic reconstruction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A novel discrete mathematical approach is proposed as an additional tool for molecular systematics which does not require prior statistical assumptions concerning the evolutionary process.

Malaria and Lyme disease - the largest vector-borne US epidemics in the last 100 years: success and failure of public health

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2019
Malaria and Lyme disease were the largest vector-borne epidemics in recent US history. Malaria, a mosquito-borne disease with intense transmission, had higher morbidity and mortality, whereas Lyme and other tick-borne diseases are more persistent in the ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Discovery of new antigens for serodiagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis in humans and dogs adds valuable tools to our arsenal

open access: yesmBio
Surveillance and sustained control of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) require reliable serodiagnostic tools. rK39, the gold standard antigen for VL diagnosis, is limited by its documented poor sensitivity in certain endemic regions, such as East Africa, and ...

Molecular innovations in medical entomology for targeting vector biology and viral pathogenesis in dengue control

open access: yesDiscover Viruses
Abstract Dengue virus affects millions of people annually, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions where Aedes mosquitoes serve as primary vectors. Conventional control measures face limitations due to pesticide resistance, environmental concerns, and issues of host

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Comparison of various expression plasmids for the induction of immune response by DNA immunization

open access: yes, 2019
Intramuscular injection of plasmid DNA is an efficient method to introduce a foreign gene into a Live animal. We investigated several factors affecting the gene transfer efficiency and the following immune response by intramuscular injection of plasmid ...

Salivary gland proteins of the human malaria vector, Anopheles dirus B (Diptera Culicidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Salivary gland proteins of the human malaria vector, Anopheles dirus B were determined and analyzed. The amount of salivary gland proteins in mosquitoes aged between 3--10 days was approximately 1.08 +/- 0.04 microg/female and 0.1 +/- 0.05 microg/male ...
