ISOPHOT Observations of Vega and Vega-Like Stars

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1997
Detailed ISOPHOT observations of the far infrared excess of α Lyrae (Vega) are presented. The data comprise photometry in the range 25µm to 200µm and high resolution 60µm scan data to compare with 60µm and 90µm oversampled maps. The dust disk around Vega is clearly resolved.

GNC Improvements between Vega and Vega-C

2023
The improvements introduced in Vega-C on GNC had the purpose of reduce the missionization costs and simultaneously increase the flexibility of the launcher to cope with always increasing complexity of multi-payload missions. The reduction of missionization costs has been obtained reducing the specific tuning activities for each mission and speeding up ...

What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas?

2020
Las Vegas is the capital of gambling in the US. The city is well known for attracting travelers due to its busy night life and casino density. In 2018, Las Vegas had more than 42 million visitors of which 20% indicated their gambling budget is more than USD 600. Gambling has been and still is the primary economic motor of the city. The website statista.

Adaptive Vegas: A Solution of Unfairness Problem for TCP Vegas

2005
We study the unfairness problem for TCP Vegas. There are three sources to cause the unfairness for Vegas: α < β, over-estimation of base RTT, and multiple congested gateways. To solve the unfairness caused by multiple congested gateways, we propose a new version of Vegas–Adaptive Vegas(A-Vegas) which assigns the value of parameters adaptively according

TCP Vegas revisited

Proceedings IEEE INFOCOM 2000. Conference on Computer Communications. Nineteenth Annual Joint Conference of the IEEE Computer and Communications Societies (Cat. No.00CH37064), 2002
The innovative techniques of TCP Vegas have been the subject of much debate in recent years. Several studies have reported that TCP Vegas provides better performance than TCP Reno. However, the question of which of the new techniques are responsible for the impressive performance gains remains unanswered so far.

VEGA

Alloy Digest, 1954
Abstract VEGA is a manganese, chromium, molybdenum alloy steel combining the deep hardening characteristics of air-hardening steels with the simplicity of low temperature heat treatment possible in many oil-hardening steels. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as ...

Understanding TCP vegas

Proceedings of the 2001 ACM SIGMETRICS international conference on Measurement and modeling of computer systems, 2001
This paper presents a model of the TCP Vegas congestion control mechanism as a distributed optimization algorithm. Doing so has three important benefits. First, it helps us gain a fundamental understanding of why TCP Vegas works, and an appreciation of its limitations.

Leaving Las Vegas: Exposure to Las Vegas and risk of suicide

Social Science & Medicine, 2008
Residents of Las Vegas, Nevada have much higher suicide rates than residents of other metropolitan counties in the USA. Whether the risk of suicide among visitors to Las Vegas is also significantly elevated has been difficult to assess because person-time denominator information is not available. We used a case-control design to examine the association

TCP Vegas-A: solving the fairness and rerouting issues of TCP Vegas

Conference Proceedings of the 2003 IEEE International, 2003
In spite of the larger performance gain such as higher throughput and almost zero packet retransmissions compared to TCP Reno, TCP Vegas still has a few obstacles for it to be deployed in the Internet. Studies have shown unfair treatment to Vegas connections when they compete with Reno connections. Other issues identified with TCP Vegas are problems of

Vega Risk and the Smile

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2000
Vega risk can be a large part of the risk of a portfolio containing options. Any market participant owning option positions should be able to compute that risk. Vega risk is analytically easy to “nest” into the standard risk management framework. The treatment of vega risk in portfolios is, however, often impeded by the lack of availability of data on ...
