Vega's hot dust from icy planetesimals scattered inward by an outward-migrating planetary system

open access: yes, 2014
Vega has been shown to host multiple dust populations, including both hot exo-zodiacal dust at sub-AU radii and a cold debris disk extending beyond 100 AU.

A Computational Approach for Biomimetic Design of Liver‐On‐A‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A biomimetic liver‐on‐a‐chip with antiparallel perfusion was designed using COMSOL‐guided simulation to replicate hepatic acinus transport. Full‐scale modelling revealed diffusion‐dominated, length‐dependent nutrient gradients and low‐shear conditions.

Long-Term Follow-Up of Intrastromal Corneal Ring Segments in Paracentral Keratoconus with Coincident Corneal Keratometric, Comatic, and Refractive Axes: Stability of the Procedure

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2017
Purpose. To assess the long-term outcomes of implanting intrastromal corneal ring segments (ICRS) in paracentral keratoconic eyes. Methods. 58 eyes with paracentral keratoconus with coincident refractive, keratometric, and comatic axes were evaluated ...

Crystalline Silicate Feature of the Vega-like star HD145263

open access: yes, 2004
We have observed the 8-13 $\mu$m spectrum (R$\sim$250) of the Vega-like star candidate HD145263 using Subaru/COMICS. The spectrum of HD145263 shows the broad trapezoidal silicate feature with the shoulders at 9.3 $\mu$m and 11.44 $\mu$m, indicating the ...

Factorization Machine‐Based Active Learning for Functional Materials Design with Optimal Initial Data

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This work investigates the optimal initial data size for surrogate‐based active learning in functional material optimization. Using factorization machine (FM)‐based quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) surrogates and averaged piecewise linear regression, we show that adequate initial data accelerates convergence, enhances efficiency, and ...

Glycosaminoglycans are involved in pathogen adherence to corneal epithelial cells differently for Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2016
The epithelium of the cornea is continuously exposed to pathogens, and adhesion to epithelial cells is regarded as an essential first step in bacterial pathogenesis.

Line Blanketing in Vega and Sirus [PDF]

open access: yes
A theoretical model and spectrum calculation for Vega is discussed. The abundance of carbon is approximately -3.8, which is 0.3 lower than the old solar value and supports Mount and Linsky's newer value.

The Absolute Magnitude of the Sun in Several Filters

open access: yes, 2018
This paper presents a table with estimates of the absolute magnitude of the Sun and the conversions from $vegamag$ to the AB and ST systems for several wide-band filters used in ground and space-based observatories.

Deep Learning Methods for Assessing Time‐Variant Nonlinear Signatures in Clutter Echoes

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Motion classification from biosonar echoes in clutter presents a fundamental challenge: extracting structured information from stochastic interference. Deep learning successfully discriminates object speed and direction from bat‐inspired signals, achieving 97% accuracy with frequency‐modulated calls but only 48% with constant‐frequency tones. This work
