Effects of freeze-thaw cycling on the engineering properties of vegetation concrete

Journal of Environmental Management, 2023
Vegetation concrete has been widely applied for the ecological restoration of bare steep slopes in short-term frozen and non-frozen soil regions in China. However, field experiments conducted in seasonally frozen soil regions have revealed decreases in the bulk density, nutrient content and vegetation coverage. This study aimed to clarify the evolution

Sustainability of Vegetal Concrete and Means of Improving Its Weaknesses

2022
The process of concrete obtaining involves high energy consumption, significant amounts of depletable natural raw materials, and greenhouse gas emissions. A greening variant of concrete is the substitution of the mineral aggregates from its composition with vegetal aggregates made by sunflower stalks.

Development of a neutral cementitious material to promote vegetation concrete

Construction and Building Materials, 2016
Abstract To develop a neutral binder for vegetation concrete, various cementitious materials based on alpha-calcium sulfate hemihydrate (α-CH) were compositionally examined as follows: 25% and 50% of the α-CH content were partially replaced by a mineral admixture; and 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% were replaced by ordinary portland cement (OPC).

Experimental Study of Vegetation-Growing Concrete’s Resistance to Rain Erosion

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Taking an experiment of vegetation-growing concrete’s resistance to rain erosion, the influence degree of the related factors on erosion amounts will be obtained. The erosion process of vegetation-growing concrete gunning slope is influenced by cement content, vegetation coverage, rainfall intensity and other factors.

Modelling the mechanical behaviour of vegetable fiber reinforced concrete blocks

2016
The mechanical behavior of hollow blocks made of concrete and natural sisal fibers tested to failure is dealt with. First, the results of compression tests carried out on blocks, prisms and wallettes are presented; for comparison, the mechanical response of companion plain concrete specimens is also shown.

Research on structural compatibility of eco‐porous concrete and vegetation

Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, 2020
AbstractTo investigate the structural compatibility of eco‐porous concrete (EPC) and vegetation, a simulation method (sand penetration coefficient) of structure compatibility between the eco‐porous concrete (EPC) and vegetation was put forward. Furthermore, the relation between sand penetration coefficient and pore characteristics were analyzed, and ...

Development of vegetation concrete technology for slope protection and greening

Construction and Building Materials, 2018
Abstract Slope vegetation clearing for urban development purposes often leaves the slope prone to surface erosion prior to revegetation establishment. This study is in response to the requirement of immediate slope protection and revegetation. As no research in Australia exists on vegetation concrete technology, this paper analyses and presents the ...

"Mechanical, Thermal, and Acoustical Properties of Concrete Containing Vegetable Particles"

"SP-209: ACI Fifth Int Conf Innovations in Design with Emphasis on Seismic, Wind and Environmental Loading, Quality Con", 2002
This paper deals with the measurement of physical properties of various formulations of concrete containing vegetable particles. Such material is made with hemp shives mixed with lime binders. Shives are very porous and as such are also lightweight. Thus, this concrete offers a high porosity related to the microscopic porosity of the shives and the ...

Effects of concrete content on seed germination and seedling establishment in vegetation concrete matrix in slope restoration

Ecological Engineering, 2013
Abstract The Vegetation Concrete Base Spraying technique (VCBS) is an ecological slope restoration technique to strengthen slope stability and restore slope vegetation in the meantime. It restores vegetation on slopes by spreading a mix of concrete, greening additives, mulching materials and plant seeds on to slope surfaces.

Study on Physical Properties and Vegetative Adaptation of Eco-porous Concrete

DEStech Transactions on Materials Science and Engineering, 2017
In order to study the influence factors of eco-porous concrete performance and capacity of plant growth, the porous concrete with different mixing proportions were produced to test strength, porosity and pH value. The concrete blocks were carbonized in natural condition so that their alkalinity met the requirement of plant growth.
