Complementary or Competitive? Emerging Interactions Between Restoration and Protection in the Conservation Reserve Program

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The USDA's Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) delivers environmental benefits to society by enrolling cropland and grasslands to reestablish or safeguard long‐term vegetative cover. In recent years, the CRP has dramatically increased grassland enrollment while cropland enrollment has been in steady decline. This paper uses descriptive analysis,

Experimental Study on the Flow Concentration Influenced by Vegetation

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2018
Due to the steep slope of mountainous watersheds and large changes in vegetation, flood responses to rainstorms are complicated. At present, the most widely used formula is the constant index of slope length, effective roughness, effective rainfall intensity ...

Compared with pure forest, mixed forest alters microbial diversity and increases the complexity of interdomain networks in arid areas

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Soil microbial communities are key to material cycling and energy exchange in forest soils. As the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang are rich in tree species, it is important to understand the impact of tree species composition on soil microbial community ...

Constructing and Validating New County‐Level Cultural Capital Indices for Applied Policy Analysis: Evidence From SNAP Take‐Up

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cultural capital influences a wide range of social and economic outcomes, yet quantitative measures suitable for policy analysis remain limited. We develop county‐level cultural capital indices for the US based on Bourdieu's framework of objectified, embodied, and institutionalized cultural capital.

Delay of Cucumber Senescence and Life‐Extending Capabilities on Caenorhabditis elegans With the Postharvest Application of Sorbitol and Methyl Salicylate

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Methyl salicylate and sorbitol were taken as coating agents. Caenorhabditis elegans was taken as an animal model. The coated agents were applied in C. elegans. The life span study in C. elegans proves the authenticity of MS and SL. MS and SL extended the post‐harvest life of cucumber for 14 days.

Guidelines for High‐Throughput Screening for Natural Products With Anti‐Aging Activity Based on Drosophila Intestinal Homeostasis

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aging represents a critical risk factor for chronic diseases, driving an urgent demand for interventions promoting healthy longevity. This study establishes standardized guidelines for high‐throughput screening (HTS) of anti‐aging natural products using Drosophila melanogaster, leveraging its intestinal homeostasis as a biomarker.

Improving the Physicochemical Properties, Organic Acids, Amino Acids, Volatile Organic Compounds, and Metabolites of Laohan Melon Juice Through Fermentation With Different Lactic Acid Bacteria

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Fermentation with lactic acid bacteria could improve amino acids, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and nonvolatile metabolites of Laohan melon juice (LMJ), which provides theoretical guidance for the development of Laohan melon beverage and advances knowledge of the metabolic mechanisms of VOCs in LMJ.
