V2V2I: Extended inter-vehicles to infrastructure communication paradigm

Global Information Infrastructure Symposium - GIIS 2013, 2013
We consider the problem of providing ubiquitous IPv6 Internet connectivity to vehicles compliant with IEEE WAVE standard. In particular, we take advantage of two realistic technology trends. On the one hand, IEEE 802.11p interfaces should be mandatory on the On-Board Units (OBUs) but the Road-Side Units (RSUs) deployment will not be immediate.

Double-layer speed optimization for reducing fuel consumption with vehicle-to-infrastructure communication

Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems / Taylor & Francis, 2019
Speed profiles affect fuel economy tremendously, especially, when vehicles running on an urban road with numerous signalized intersections. To improve fuel economy, in this study, we propose a double-layer speed optimization method with real-time ...

Local Peer Groups and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communications

2007 IEEE Globecom Workshops, 2007
As the field of active safety vehicle technologies grows, vehicle-to-infrastructure communications will play an important part in distributing safety and other information to a larger area quickly. In this paper, the authors discuss preliminary considerations for roadside interaction with the vehicles in the context of a previously proposed local peer ...

Realistic performance model for vehicle-to-infrastructure communications

2014 International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC), 2014
This paper introduces extensions of a previously proposed range-dependent modified Gilbert model for generation of realistic error patterns. With the proposed extensions our model can be used to generate signal-to-noise ratio trends corresponding to the error patterns for infrastructure-to-vehicle communications.

Persistent Traffic Measurement Through Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communications

2017 IEEE 37th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS), 2017
Measuring point traffic volume and point-to-point traffic volume in a road system has important applications in transportation engineering. The connected vehicle technologies integrate wireless communications and computers into transportation systems, allowing wireless data exchanges between vehicles and road-side equipment, and enabling large-scale ...

Urban vehicle-to-infrastructure wireless communications range evaluation

2012 15th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2012
We consider the problem of information propagation for traffic management applications of Intelligent Transportation Systems in urban areas. In this paper is described a system for measurement of communication range of vehicular wireless communications, method for processing and interpreting the measured data and the initial results.

Vehicle to Infrastructure Communications

2018
Vehicle to Infrastructure communications (V2I) is one of the emerging connected vehicles technologies. V2I holds a promise for significant benefits to both road users and operators. Automotive manufacturers and USDOT invested considerable research efforts in V2I communications technology.

Millimeter-Wave Channel Characterization for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communication

2020 14th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP), 2020
The vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication can capture infrastructure data and provide travelers with real-time traffic information, which can significantly improve road safety. Millimeter-wave (mmWave) with large bandwidth has been introduced as a key technology to achieve ultra-reliable, low latency, and high-data-rate V2I communication.

Machine learning based optimization for vehicle-to-infrastructure communications

Future Generation Computer Systems, 2019
In this paper, we study wireless communications in vehicle-to-infrastructure communications. In certain situations, multiple vehicles within a local range need to exchange information via common roadside infrastructure. Example scenarios include busy intersections, and a driver with the knowledge of information from other vehicles can make safer ...

Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Visible Light Communications: Channel Modelling and Capacity Calculations

2020 12th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP), 2020
In this paper, we investigate the performance of a visible light communication (VLC) system for vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) connectivity. Two headlamps of the vehicle serve as wireless transmitters while photodetectors located within the traffic light pole act as wireless receivers.
