THE COSMOPOLITICS OF CATS AND WILDLIFE ON CAPE TOWN'S URBAN EDGE
Abstract Free‐ranging cats are widely tolerated in cities, and animal welfare organizations increasingly allow for ‘trap, neuter and release’ (TNR) of unowned cats. We show, using the example of a university campus adjacent to a national park in a large metropole, that this has implications for cosmopolitics over biodiversity on the urban edge.

Abstract Research summary A long‐standing critique of place‐based crime prevention interventions has been that any reductions in crime are often short‐lived. If researchers do not carry out longer‐duration follow‐ups, we cannot know for sure if the effects of these interventions will persist, decay, or even strengthen.

ABSTRACT Compared to large enterprises (LEs), small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) have unique characteristics that may affect their needs in several areas. Thus, the “one‐size‐fits‐all” approach to meeting the needs of both groups of enterprises would be inappropriate in different circumstances.

During spread of Streptococcus pneumoniae from the lung to the bloodstream, the pneumococcal pore‐forming toxin pneumolysin (PLY) disrupts apical junction complexes (AJCs) and triggers the transmigration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs), which secrete tissue‐destructive neutrophil elastase.

Our study reveals that overactivation of both mTOR complexes through mLST8 in RPE cells triggers AMD‐like pathology and cellular dysfunction. This finding highlights the critical role of balanced mTOR signaling in retinal health and suggests that targeting both complexes could be therapeutic for AMD treatment.

The effects of the mitochondria‐targeted peptide therapeutic elamipretide on age‐related muscle function were compared with its effects on molecular biomarkers of aging. It was found that elamipretide treatment partially reverses age‐related cardiac dysfunction and skeletal muscle weakness in mice without significantly affecting muscle epigenetic or ...
