This chapter traces W.E.B. Du Bois’s concepts of the Veil, double consciousness, and second sight in the novels of Mildred D. Taylor. Bond argues that Du Bois’s Veil is a common thread throughout Taylor’s works and is useful as an interpretive lens to understand the lived experience of the Logan family.
