A Generalized Empirical Model for Velocity Deficit and Turbulent Intensity in Tidal Turbine Wake Accounting for the Effect of Rotor-Diameter-to-Depth Ratio

open access: yesEnergies
Commercial scale tidal stream turbines (TST) are expected to be deployed in shallow water where the depth varies from 1.5 to 3 turbine diameters. In this study, numerical simulation is conducted at realistic hydrodynamic conditions of potential tidal ...

Near field structure of wing tip vortices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
High spatial resolution experiments in the near field of a trailing vortex using a Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry technique have been carried out. A NACA 0015 model with flat tip has been tested for several Reynolds numbers and angles of attack.

Mean turbulence statistics in boundary layers over high-porosity foams

open access: yes, 2017
This paper reports turbulent boundary layer measurements made over open-cell reticulated foams with varying pore size and thickness, but constant porosity ($\epsilon \approx 0.97$). The foams were flush-mounted into a cutout on a flat plate.

Influence of Strength and Power Capacity on Change of Direction Speed and Deficit in Elite Team-Sport Athletes

open access: yesJournal of Human Kinetics, 2019
The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of maximum strength and power levels on change of direction (COD) ability and deficit in elite soccer and rugby players.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Theoretical Analysis and Semianalytical Solutions for a Turbulent Buoyant Hydrogen-Air Jet

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
Semianalytical solutions are developed for turbulent hydrogen-air plume. We derived analytical expressions for plume centerline variables (radius, velocity, and density deficit) in terms of a single universal function, called plume function. By combining

Towards a Simplified Dynamic Wake Model using POD Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We apply the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) to large eddy simulation data of a wind turbine wake in a turbulent atmospheric boundary layer. The turbine is modeled as an actuator disk. Our analyis mainly focuses on the question whether POD could be

Large Population of ALMA Galaxies at z>6 with Very High [OIII]88um to [CII]158um Flux Ratios: Evidence of Extremely High Ionization Parameter or PDR Deficit? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We present our new ALMA observations targeting [OIII]88um, [CII]158um, [NII]122um, and dust continuum emission for three Lyman break galaxies at z=6.0293-6.2037 identified in the Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam survey.

Optimised force-velocity training during pre-season enhances physical performance in professional rugby league players

open access: yesJurnal sport science, 2020
The effectiveness of 8-week force-velocity optimised training was assessed in highly trained professional rugby league athletes. Players (age 24 ± 3 years; body mass 94.9 ± 21.6 kg; height 181.3 ± 6.0 cm) were strength-matched and assigned to a force ...

Use of Symptomatic Drug Treatment for Fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis and Patterns of Work Loss

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To describe the use of central stimulants and amantadine for fatigue in MS and evaluate a potential association with reduced work loss in people with MS. Methods We conducted a nationwide, matched, register‐based cohort study in Sweden (2006 to 2023) using national registers with prospective data collection.
