Velocity dispersion of correlated energy spread electron beams in the free electron laser

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
The effects of a correlated linear energy/velocity chirp in the electron beam in the free electron laser (FEL), and how to compensate for its effects by using an appropriate taper (or reverse-taper) of the undulator magnetic field, is well known.

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

HI and CO Velocity Dispersions in Nearby Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We analyze the velocity dispersions of individual HI and CO profiles in a number of nearby galaxies from the high-resolution HERACLES CO and THINGS HI surveys. Focusing on regions with bright CO emission, we find a CO dispersion value: 7.3 $\pm$ 1.7 km/s.

On the ability of the Generalized Continuum Transport Model to properly capture dispersion

open access: yesAnalele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Ovidius Constanta: Seria Matematica, 2018
The ability of the Generalized Continuum Transport model to describe dispersion is studied through the comparison of the breakthrough curves with an analytical solution of the linear advection-dispersion Equation.

Determination and impact factor analysis of hydrodynamic dispersion coefficient within a gravel layer using an electrolyte tracer method

open access: yesInternational Soil and Water Conservation Research, 2016
Hydrodynamic dispersion is a measure for describing the process of solute transport in porous media. Characterizing the dispersion of water flow within gravel is essential for the prediction of solute transport especially nonpoint source pollutants ...

Acoustic Characteristics Analysis of Double-Layer Liquid-Filled Pipes Based on Acoustic–Solid Coupling Theory

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Based on the theory of acoustic–solid coupling, the phase velocity-thickness product of a double-layer liquid-filled pipeline is analyzed, and the dispersion relationship between angular frequency and wavenumber–thickness product is analyzed, providing a

Pairwise velocities in the Halo Model: Luminosity and Scale Dependence

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate the properties of the pairwise velocity dispersion as a function of galaxy luminosity in the context of a halo model. We derive the distribution of velocities of pairs at a given separation taking into account both one-halo and two-halo ...

Accurate recovery of HI velocity dispersion from radio interferometers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Gas velocity dispersion measures the amount of disordered motions of a rotating disk. Accurate estimates of this parameter are of the utmost importance because it is directly linked to disk stability and star formation. A global measure of the gas velocity dispersion can be inferred from the width of the atomic hydrogen HI 21 cm line.

Assessing proton plans with three different beam delivery systems versus photon plans for head and neck tumors

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To compare plan quality among photon volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and intensity‐modulated proton therapy (IMPT) with robustness using three different proton beam delivery systems with various spot size (σ) ranges: cyclotron‐generated proton beams (CPBs) (σ: 2.7–7.0 mm), linear accelerator proton beams (LPBs) (σ: 2.9–5.5 mm),
